The Piano Life Saver System from Dampp-Chaser maintains the soundboard and parts of your piano constructed of wood at a constant moisture level. Damage to the piano parts such as the Pin Block, the Soundboard, and the other wooden action parts occurs when the humidity levels rise and fall with the seasons.  Winter cold causes the air to dry out with humidity falling into the 5 - 10% range and Summer warmth rising into the 60-90% area. Wood either swells or shrinks according to the humidity and it is this same swelling and shrinking that causes the cracks and splits in the soundboard and other important parts of the piano. A piano also goes in and out of tune due to the same action.  The installation of a Dampp-Chaser system keeps the humidity level at the optimal range of 40-60%.  Costs start at $500 and are determined by type and size of piano.  This will be the best investment you will ever make to protect your piano.
